The Greyboy Allstars at Soundcheck Studios

The Greyboy Allstars visited Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, MA on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. This was part of their Get a Job Tour 2022. The band consists of Karl Denson, Elgin Park, Aaron Redfield, Chris Stillwell and Robert Walker. Karl Denson has quite the illustrious career as a jazz musician. Not only is there Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, he’s also been associated with acts like Lenny Kravitz, The Rolling Stones, and Slightly Stoopid.  The band delivered two sets (plus an encore), totaling 18 songs on the evening.

They opened the night up with What Happened to TV. From there they went on to play Still Waiting and V-Neck Sweater. Jack Rabbit and Walk On By rounded off the first set. The second set began with Wynder K Frog. They then pumped out jam after jam including Como De Allstars, Executive Party and I’ve Got Reasons. Happy Friends was the last song we were left with before a much anticipated encore. They capped the show off by delivering that encore in the form of Suzy, the great Kenny Burrell cover. For those interested, here is the full setlist from the evening.

KEEPING UP WITH THE GBA

To keep up to date on all things The Greyboy Allstars, head to the links provided below. Make sure to check out their most recent album, Get a Job, on your platform of choice. As a result of this release, they’ve already played twenty-two shows in 2022, spanning from March to May. That is far more than usual, so I’d keep an eye open to see if they keep the train rolling into the summer and fall. You can also find the latest on Soundcheck Studios and of course, DYFO!
