PWHL Boston vs PWHL Minnesota

The PWHL Boston team kicked off their first ever game against the PWHL Minnesota. The game took place on January 3, 2024 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. Former Boston Bruin Captain Patrice Bergeron and his family were in the house. They came out to drop the ceremonial first puck. Captain Hilary Knight handed the puck off to Patrice as he left the ice. The National Anthem was then performed by Michelle Brooks-Thompson, setting the stage for the opening faceoff.

The first period kicked off and it didn’t take long for the action to begin. Taylor Heise kicked off the scoring for Minnesota with a goal just under four minutes into the first. Teammate Sophia Kunin then followed up a few minutes later to give Minnesota the early 2-0 lead. Boston got on the board for the first time in history with Theresa Schafzahl’s goal eight minutes into the second. Minnesota quickly responded with a goal of their own 55 seconds later by Grace Zumwinkle. Things picked back up in the later half of the third period when Boston’s Megan Keller delivered a power play goal with 2:40 remaining in the contest. Despite a late net crash from Boston, Minnesota goaltender Nicole Hensley was rock solid and anchored her team to the 3-2 victory.
