Everyday Life, Everyday People by Slightly Stoopid
Dance Your Face Off was honored to have the opportunity to review Slightly Stoopid’s 9th full length studio album, “Everyday life, Everyday People”. The album will be released later this week, on July 13th courtesy of Stoopid Records and Silverback Music. We were stoked to sit down and listen to it, especially after their last album “Meanwhile…Back at the Lab” (2015) deservingly hit number 37 on the US Billboard top 200 chart. One thing long time fans of the band (passionately referred to as Stoopidheads) already know is their ability to bring together great artist from all kinds of genres. This album is no different with appearances from Don Carlos, Alborosie, Yellowman, Chali 2na, Ali Campbell, and G Love.
With the first single released off the album, ” If You Want It” (ft. Alborosie), Alborosie brings a definite deep rooted island sound to this amazing track. The horns also really make the song stand out and give off that beach vibe. Their second single released was “Higher Now” (ft Chali 2na). This song takes a completely different approach with heavy bass lines and Chali 2na’s deep voice and amazing lyrical prowess bring a dope hip-hop feel to this heavy hitter. You will be sure to be bumping this one down the boulevard! The latest single that dropped this past Friday is “One More Night”. This track closes out the album in a rather sobering and thought provoking way. It touches on how hard it is to be away from loved ones while out on the road. This one hits very close with us, as we have all gone out on the road on musical adventures and often miss family, friends, and important milestones. However, anyone who has been away from home will appreciate the significance of the songs true emotion and beauty.
After listening to the rest of the album, it certainly has all of the elements that define Stoopid. The prime example is the title track featuring G Love that is a perfect mix of reggae, funk, and hip-hop. Another standout track features Ali Campbell, with an insane rendition of a Peter Tosh tune, with a hell of a stoopid twist! We at Dance Your Face Off feel that this is a solid album from front to back. Not only do we rate this album at five stars, but we expect to see this one up for album of the year on all of the scene’s top charts. Slightly Stoopid is out on their “School’s Out For Summer Tour” hitting many stops in North America with Stick Figure and Pepper, and is also hosting their 5th annual “Closer to the Sun Festival” which will be held at the all inclusive Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Porta Adventuras, Mexico. This festival will take place in late November into early December. Be sure to check out Slightly Stoopid when they come through your city, and give Everyday Life, Everyday People a spin!
