Indie-folk group The Ballroom Thieves came to The Sinclair in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Saturday June 1, 2024. The band from Boston (originated at Stone Hill College in 2010) received a warm welcome from the fans. The duo of Martin Earley and Calin Peters make up the band. Earley (guitar/vocals) and Peters (bass/cello/vocals), who have now married, have a reputation for their stunning harmonies and infectious live setting.
As soon as the band took the stage, the connection between Earley and Peters was evident. Throughout the 80-minute set, the duo played with high energy and a great passion. The band’s connection with the crowd was terrific.
They began with Gorilla and Sea Legs, continuing with Saint Monica, Worldender, In the Morning, and Fistfight. Pour Down, You Can Close Your eyes, Anybody Else, Everything is Everything, Don’t It Feel Good, Tender, Bees, Angry Child, and Boring Disaster were also performed on the night. All these songs are featured in their albums: A Wolf in the Doorway (2015, Blue Corn Music), Deadeye (2016, self-released), Paper Crown (2018), Unlovely (2020, Nettwerk), and Clouds (2022, Nettwerk).
A fabulous night of music executed by the duo, The Ballroom Thieves’ performance at The Sinclair was phenomenal. All photos and written review provided by Joanna Gleason and Jean Senat Fleury.
